I used permanent hair dye and every time I wash my hair the color comes out. Its fading terribly. Ive even used color treatment shampoo and contioner and it still washes out. I used John Frieda's hair color stuff and it gave me terrible dandruff. Now my hair is growing out too and I need to redye it, but Im affraid its going to look really bad because the original is fading. What am I doing wrong and how can I fix it? Thanks!
Why is my hair dye washing out?
If you are colouring your hair yourself are you dying the whole head over again each time? If you are your problem is over processed hair, it is not necessary to re-dye over previously coloured hair as this causes the hair not to accept colour because the cuticle will not close to seal in colour, the colour just washes back out when you shampoo, which also opens the cuticle more. You should only dye the regrowth area for the specified time then comb the colour through to the ends the last 5 minutes of the processing time, your previously treated hair only needs to be refreshed! Another thing you can do is dilute the remaining colour with some leave in conditioner before you apply it to the ends. If you are not going lighter then you might consider using a Deposit Only Colour with no lifting ability, at any rate you should start by re-building the hair, Cera - Repair by Matrix is available through your hairdresser or you can by a product at shoppers drug mart called Kolestral which was widely used by some of the most advanced stylists in the industry in it's day, it's still does the job

If you just recently dyed it, it's perfectly natural for it to fade a little for the first few washes.
