It depends on the area affected by cancer, its stage, type, and grade. Based on this your Oncologist will decide the course of treatment. Most common and must treatment are -

Surgery, Chemotherapy and Radiation Therapy. different medicines are used for different cancers and short term (one day) or long term (4 days) chemo are given. The hair loss will start after completing the first cycle in about 15 days and before starting next cycle all hair will fall and the patient becomes bald. Generally 2 or 3 such cycles of chemotherapy are given. In 85% of the chemotherapy hair fall is a certain. But it will grow back to the original level in about 6 months time.

I suggest to get a wig ordered and as per the present hair length and style so that people may overlook your change and you also will not feel embarrassed.

My son had dark and light blonde very thick hair. All the dark blonde hair fell out within two months after starting high dose chemo treatment. But the light hair remained for three or more months.

His next chemo treatment he didn't lose his hair at all, in fact it all grew back.

So, it depends alot on each individual and the type of chemo they receive.

By the way, losing his hair never bothered him. When it was cold out he just wore a baseball cap or something warm. Also all his hair grew back once he stopped the chemo that was making it fall out to begin with.

It only took one for me. About 10 days later hair was clogging the shower drain! That was every day for about 5 days, I was losing hair in the shower.

I had CHOP for Lymphoma, that caused my hair loss. Different chemos would work differently.

it depends on the kind of chemo a person gets and each person is different.my bf had 1 treatment and his hair came out in hand full in 2 weeks
